Abstract |
This research work presents three novel approaches aimed at enhancing the visibility of Infrared (IR) images, with a focus on face images. The first proposed approach depends on the (SFC) technique, which combines three cascaded stages: Sharpening filter, Fuzzy logic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE). The second proposal employs the (FSC) technique, which integrates three stages in cascade: Fuzzy logic processing, Sharpening Filter and CLAHE. Proposal 3 is based on the (SCF) technique, which combines three stages in cascade: a Sharpening filter, CLAHE, and Fuzzy logic processing. The evaluation metrics used for the suggested approaches are average gradient, contrast, edge magnitude, histogram, entropy and PSNR. They are used to measure the performance of the proposed techniques compared to the recent published works. In addition to the PUJ-FONE dataset, which comprises about 800 co-registered long-wave infrared (LWIR) and visible spectrum photos from 40 individuals, we also used a database of facial images taken in the thermal spectrum. Execution times representing the complexity of all systems are provided. |
